Your journey begins in Guwahati, the vibrant capital
city of Assam, where our representative will receive
you on arrival. Later, Overnight stay in Guwahati.
After a brief introduction, the adventure kicks off with
a drive to Bhalukpong, the gateway to Arunachal
Pradesh. As you leave the plains of Assam behind,
the landscape begins to shift—lush green forests,
meandering rivers, and gently rising hills start to
emerge. Upon reaching Bhalukpong, situated on the
border of Assam and Arunachal, check in to your
hotel. This charming riverside town offers a gentle
welcome into the region’s natural serenity. Settle in,
relax, and breathe in the fresh air of the foothills.
After breakfast, begin your journey toward Dirang, a
picturesque hill station known for its cold climate, apple
orchards, and quiet charm. As you ascend into the
Western Arunachal ranges, the road carves its way
through river valleys and tribal hamlets. Upon reaching
Dirang, visit the Dirang Monastery, a peaceful hilltop
gompa overlooking the valley. The monastery, with its
fluttering prayer flags and meditative silence, offers a
spiritual interlude to the journey. Later, explore the
historic Dirang Dzong, a centuries-old fortified village
featuring traditional stone houses and ancient cultural
relics. Spend the evening at leisure, embracing the crisp
mountain air and the slow rhythm of life in the hills.
Today’s journey from Dirang to Tawang is one of the
most scenic and spiritually profound drives in all of
Northeast India. The ascent begins with a stop at the
revered Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to
the valor of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who
held off enemy forces during the 1962 Indo-China
war. From there, the road climbs to Sela Pass,
perched at an altitude of 13,700 feet. This high
mountain pass is often snow-covered, offering
stunning vistas and dramatic landscapes. Pause at
the ethereal Sela Lake, its icy waters reflecting the
sky and surrounding peaks in hues of blue and
silver. On the descent toward Tawang, visit the
Nuranang Falls, a thunderous cascade emerging
from forested cliffs—an ideal photo stop and moment
of wonder. By late afternoon or evening, arrive in
Tawang and check into your hotel for the night.
Start your day with a visit to the legendary Tawang
Monastery, the largest monastery in India and the
second largest in Asia. Standing on a hilltop with
panoramic views of the Tawang Valley, this 17thcentury monastery is home to over 400 monks and
holds immense historical and religious significance in
Tibetan Buddhism. Explore its vast prayer halls, old
thangka paintings, and the towering golden Buddha
statue. After soaking in the spiritual energy, proceed
to the Tawang War Memorial, a beautifully maintained
site that honors the brave soldiers of the Indo-China
war. Visit the Urgelling Monastery, the birthplace of
the sixth Dalai Lama, and spend your afternoon
walking through local markets where prayer wheels,
woolen garments, and handcrafted souvenirs line the
shops. Return to your hotel in the evening to rest and
enjoy a quiet mountain night..
After an early breakfast, prepare for an excursion to
Bumla Pass, located at 15,200 feet on the IndoChina border. This journey requires a special permit
and offers one of the most surreal landscapes you’ll
witness—snowfields, isolated roads, and a silence
that humbles the soul. Standing at the border, you’ll
sense both the magnitude of nature and the
resilience of the human spirit. On your way back,
visit Shonga-tser Lake, popularly known as Madhuri
Lake, which came into fame after the Bollywood
movie Koyla was filmed here. Surrounded by dead
tree trunks and high-altitude meadows, the lake
offers an eerie yet breathtakingly beautiful
landscape. Return to Tawang by afternoon for your
final evening in this land of lamas, legends, and
mountain serenity.
After breakfast, drive to Bomdila, a peaceful hill
town offering panoramic Himalayan views. Visit
the Bomdila Monastery, modeled after the
Tsona Gontse Monastery in Tibet, and enjoy the
scenic Bomdila View Point for a sweeping look
at snow-covered ranges. Evening free to
explore the local market for handwoven carpets
and woolens. Overnight in Bomdila.
